7Reasons why Jesus used parables in teaching

Here are some notes that I have collected in the margins of my Bible as to why the Lord used parables to teach:

Prophecy Isaiah 6:9-10

Confound the spies and Pharisees

Challenged His disciples to greater spiritual discernment

The Hebrew people were familiar with the method

Easy to remember

Interesting

The teachings were unsuitable for use against him in court

Explanation:

o conceal truth: Jesus explained, “Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. ... Not everyone was intended to understand Christ's message. He skillfully used parables to throw curve balls and confuse those who were not open to truth.
