1) Cobalt Minor Miner in Congo. Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) produces 60 percent of the world’s cobalt consumption.
Cobalt is a very important component in making lithium-ion batteries that powers almost all electric
cars, lap tops including the smart phone that you are using today. Of that said production, 20 percent
is extracted from an unregulated small-scale mines where children as young as 7 years old works
inside the hand-dug mines with little or no safety protections & precautions. The result, many of
these children had lost their lives for such low compensation. At the site, women & children help in
the mining. At barely 10 years old, children lug heavy sacks to be washed in rivers. Even those too
young to work, at most dust-covered infants clinging to their mothers playing on the dirty ground
spend much of the day breathing in toxic fumes. Over the next decade, the demand for this rare
metal is set to increase as the production of electric cars progress. However, the effort to go GREEN
by minimizing carbon emission & maximizing technology is counter flowed by this sad reality. This
is globalization set before our eyes yet many children are at risk. Such technological advancement
within our palm seemed to be tainted with the blood of a minor miner.

2) Mica Minor Miner in Madagascar.

While social globalization improved women’s rights and women empowerment, marginalized
domestic women, together with the inflows of human trafficking, have not been benefitted by
globalization. Millions of young girls around the world suffer injustices like lack of education, early
marriage & gender-based violence. In education, girls still make up the percentage of out of school
children than boys. Families prioritize educations for males rather than females. Even those who are
in school still struggles to stay or finish their education as culture dictates household chores,
childcare & adult rearing a sole women responsibilities. In today’s world, there are a wide range of
barriers that prevents girls from receiving quality education like poverty, child marriage, violence &
even lack of comfort room, toilets & wash room adds to the susceptibility of women against
violence & crime.
