Why is the direct primary the principle nominating method used in the United States?

The Primary system involves the voting process involved by a political party in the nomination of an individual which will represent the party during the general election.

This type of system was adopted in other to protect the interest of the elites in the party in the fielding of the candidates they yearned for and wanted to work with. This is because the elites are the ones who sponsor the political parties and are big stakeholders in the party.
