They represent their constituents but they don't go hear ththe opion of those they represent and report back in favor or against.  They are elected to make descions on our behalf after we have listened to their beliefs and give them our trust to do what is in our beliefs and intrests.  That is why it is called represenitative democracy.   A pure Democracy we would vote on every issue with majority rule
