How did the reforms of the Gracchus brothers affect Roman farmers?

Tiberius Gracchus passed a law which provided for the

redistribution of land to poor peasants and the landless poor.

Despite a law which prohibited anyone from owning more than a

certain amount of land, large landowners took advantage of the

misfortunes of many small peasants to buy their land on the cheap.
