During a severe thunderstorm, Christopher was talking on the phone with his girlfriend when lightning struck the house and the electrical shock traveled through the telephone wire. In the case of Christopher, the negative experience of electric shock caused by his telephone during the lightnening has caused him to develop phobia for  thunderstorm and lightening. This is as result of the shock being caused during his call on the phone with his girlfriend.

In summary, the phobia for lightning and thunderstorm is as a result of his negative experience which it caused.
