Graduated exposure is slowly and in minute steps exposing the patient to more of those phobia that she or he has. This at the long run forces the lack of any stronghold or false notion that the person is usually imagining.

By Kevin being gradually exposed by his therapist, to his fears of elevators he is able to treat a false fear or phobia he has been imagining.

Graduated exposure therapy is the working working up of one's way through their stages of fear starting from the least fearful exposure.

It's a therapy that is used to help overcome fear by presenting to one the least fearful process and after going pass that, it brings in the next least fearful process, on and on like that until the person has gone through their whole stage of fear.

This therapy helps persons to overcome their fear through the gradual process.
