Malingering can be simply defined as the pretense of being ill in order to escape work/duty or achieve a desired outcome. In insurance, Malingering describes when an individual intentionally produces grossly exaggerated or false psychological and physical symptoms in order to receive large monetary awards from an insurance company like Wanda did.

Factitious disorder explains when an individual deceives people by appearing physically or mentally sick when in fact they are responsible for the sickness because they intentionally inflict injuries on themselves or purposely carry out actions that cause sickness just like Roberta injected herself with bacteria.

 A rare case of  Factitious disorder occurs when caregivers or family members present children as being ill or injured when they are actually healthy and have no injuries.
