El-Farabi played an important role in Islamic philosophy. He is often given the role as the first true founder of epistemology. He lived in a time where Islam was being divided into independent states. This was a problem because the teachings would not be unified, they would not be the same in the East and in the West. El-Farabi took it upon himself to restore the unity in the Islamic faith. He did so by the teachings of Plato and Aristotle. Because of this, he is also given the name of "Second Teacher." Some of El-Farabi’s major works include his book titled Political Regime and Virtuous City. Both these books start with his research and study about the astrology and the universe, then transitions into his study of politics.
