In medicine terminology, the term breech position refers to the position of a fetus being in a longitudinal way with its buttock closest to the cervix.

As pregnancy comes to an end, the fetus will naturally move from its original position with its buttocks close to the vaginal canal to the birth position with his head closer to this canal so birth can take place. When this doesn't happen (for many reasons) the buttocks of the baby remain close to the vaginal canal and therefore they are the first part to emerge from the vagina. This is called the "breech position" and it can lead to a slightly higher probability of complications for the baby.
