When making a decision based on a fact or experience that immediately comes to mind this shortcut is known as the availability heuristic. The decision making occurs as a person thinks that the first example that came into mind must be important as it was the first thing that came into mind.

The recalled memory is generally of a new experience. People tend to give more importance to new experiences rather than old ones.

Hence, the error in thinking reflects the availability heuristic.
