Filtering or mental filtering is called irrational thinking. this procedure is used to filter out the positive and detaining the negative from the sources.  

For example, a person who is suffering from anxiety disorder focuses on possible outcomes of the day going with the patient. These happen during day work, meetings criminals, inclement weather and so on, the person filtering it as bad luck but eliminate positive thinking or not think about optimism.  

Filtering is one of the most Aron Back cognitive theory. Many techniques have been developed by other psychologists related to filtering. It is also called the evaluation of the mental cognition both in the perspective as negative and positive.
