How did chris in the movie “the pursuit of happyness” show persistence?

Chris shows persistence in many situations. In one of the most memorable scene, he is painting his apartment and he is arrested for not paying parking tickets. He manages to go to an important interview but he dresses withouth a shirt and a tie. He convinces the interviewers to give him a chance when he says: Can I say something? I'm the type of person if you ask me a question and I don't know the answer, I'm gonna tell you that I don't know but I bet you what, I know how to find the answer and I will find the answer, is that fair enough?. At the end, the most important CEO in that company, asks him Chris: What would you say if a guy walked in for an interview without a shirt onand I hired him?  What would you say?
