Continental or inland climate is a type of climate that is usually found in the interior areas of large continents on mid-latitudes in the northern hemisphere. The climate has winter temperatures that are low enough to last longer periods of snow each year, and relatively little rainfall that comes mainly in the summer, although east coastal areas (mainly in North America) can have more even rainfall distribution throughout the year. Only a few areas in Iran near Turkey, and Central Asia have the most rainfall in the winter, which usually melts in early spring and produces short-term floods.

These areas usually have high grassland forests or plains such as vegetation, and include many of the most productive agricultural areas in the world. All such climates have at least three months with average temperatures above 10 ° C and winters have at least one month with average temperatures below −3 ° C.  

Continental climate is characterized by cold air masses in winter and hot air masses in summer, which occurs due to high sun and long days. Areas with a continental climate are usually either far from the sea or in coastal areas where the wind usually blows from land. Such areas can get quite high temperatures in summer, not unlike tropical climates, but are often much colder than areas with other climates of the same latitude in winter.
