There are various listening styles and are recognized as old as the time of Aristotle. Aristotle perceived that audience members in his gathering of people were differed in listening style.  

Task-oriented listening is the point at which the audience looks for a clear message about what should be done, and tries to get the exact idea as the speaker wants to deliver.
