Alexander Hamilton outlined in Federalist No. 68 the advantages to the Electoral College. The electors would come from the people, and would be chosen for one time only, to avoid a permanent body that could influence elections. James Madison was also a supporter of the Electoral College, as he believed it would prevent the creation of factions.
