The Cusichaca Andina is an organization that is trying to revive the huana, a small, pink potato from the Andes. They argue that huana is the perfect crop for uncertain times, such as the ones we are and will continue to experience due to climate change. It resists frost, extreme rain and drought. It can be stored for two or three years, and although bitter, it can be made palatable with traditional techniques.

The organization is also working to restore the irrigation system that Incas used in the Andean region, and researching other traditional crops such as quinoa, amaranth, potatoes and squashes. They have recently won a grant from the World Bank to continue their project.
