Cherokee Nation v. Georgia was a case of the Supreme Court of the United States rejected in January 1831. The Cherokee Nation tried with this lawsuit against the state of Georgia to prohibit the interference of the Government of Georgia in the individual rights of the nation and interference in the settlement area.

The Cherokee were supported by some prominent politicians, including Davy Crockett, Daniel Webster and Theodore Frelinghuysen. The interests of the nation were represented by the lawyer William Wirt. Wirt requested the cancellation of all laws passed by Georgia that restricted the right of the Cherokee sovereign nation. However, the Supreme Court dismissed the claim on the grounds that the Indians were not a separate state, but a "domestic dependent nation", which as such could not claim any rights ,
