Electrons will always take the path with the lower resistance. For example, think of it like driving. If there are more things to slow you down on Road A, such as a traffic jam, you'd want to take a Road B because it has less things to slow you down. Electrons want to do the same thing. Essentially, they want to go into the path which is 'less clogged up', and over time, electrons will clog up with paths with higher resistance. it's called resistance for a reason, it "resists" electrons/current!
