Experimental Apparatus
The students have access to the experimental apparatus shown in the figure. Besides the sphere, the apparatus
consists of the following.
A launcher that launches the sphere horizontally, always with the same unknown speed to
A stand that can be used to adjust the height of the launcher above the floor
The students also have several sheets of plain paper, several sheets of carbon paper, a meterstick, and a stopwatch.
Whenever the sphere bounces off of the carbon paper, the carbon paper produces a visible mark on the sheet of
plain paper that is under the carbon paper, as shown in the figure.

Astudent is performing an experiment comparing sound and light waves. the student gathers the following data. what conclusion does the student most likely make based on this data? light waves always travel the same speed; however, the speed of sound is determined by the medium that it travels through. all sound waves always have the same energy, so the temperature of the medium does not affect wave speed. light needs to vibrate particles, so it travels fastest in tightly packed solids, while sound does not need a medium, so it travels fastest in a gas. tightly packed particles in solids slow down the light waves; however, sound waves make particles bounce into each other, so they travel faster in solids.

Although longitudinal waves can travel through all media types what is the disadvantage of this type of wave transmission? a) he efficiency of he wave transmission is greatly diminished as the media becomes less dense b) the oscillation of one set of particles has a huge impact on neighboring particles c) particles become too close together as they bump into each other making it more likely to hit other particles down the line
