Two balls with the same mass, one of wood and the other a Ping-Pong ball partly
filled with sand, are rolled along a desk. The wooden ball rolls along nicely, but the
Ping-Pong ball stops in a few centimeters. What happened to its kinetic energy?
Was the kinetic energy changed to heat energy by the force of friction between the
ball and the desk? Explain your answer.

Two cannon balls weighing 18 kg and 24 kg are chained together and fired horizontally with a velocity of 165 m/s from the top of a 21-m wall. the chain breaks during the flight of the cannonballs and the 18-kg cannonball strikes the ground at t = 1.5 s, at a distance of 240 m from the foot of the wall, and 7 m to the right of the line of fire. determine the position of the other cannonball at that instant. neglect the resistance of the air.

An athlete swings a ball, connected to the end of a chain, in a horizontal circle. the athlete is able to rotate the ball at the rate of 8.13 rev/s when the length of the chain is 0.600 m. when he increases the length to 0.900 m, he is able to rotate the ball only 6.04 rev/s. (a) which rate of rotation gives the greater speed for the ball? 6.04 rev/s 8.13 rev/s (b) what is the centripetal acceleration of the ball at 8.13 rev/s? m/s2 (c) what is the centripetal acceleration at 6.04 rev/s? m/s2
