Jack and Rose wanted to study the effects of friction on the motion of objects. In order to do so, they decided that they would test how well a coin slides across various surfaces with different amounts of friction. The surfaces that they slid the coin across were: a smooth white board, a piece of textured fabric, and a piece of sandpaper. In order to guarantee that the amount of force applied remained constant, the surfaces were placed on top of a book and kept at a 50 degree angle the entire time. The penny was placed on its side at the top of the surface and allowed to slide down. The distance the penny slid down the surface was measured after each trial and recorded in the data table. Distance the Penny Slid:

Acave rescue team lifts an injured spelunker directly upward and out of a sinkhole by means of a motor-driven cable. the lift is performed in three stages, each requiring a vertical distance of 10.0 m: (a) the initially stationary spelunker is accelerated to a speed of 4.90 m/s; (b) he is then lifted at the constant speed of 4.90 m/s; (c) finally he is decelerated to zero speed. how much work is done on the 68.0 kg rescue by the force lifting him during each stage?

Ascientist notices that an oil slick floating on water when viewed from above has many different colors reflecting off the surface, making it look rainbow-like (an effect known as iridescence). she aims a spectrometer at a particular spot and measures the wavelength to be 750 nm (in air). the index of refraction of water is 1.3
