. Sketch the KE vs. time graph for a ball through straight up into the air. The ball is released and caught at the same level. Be sure to title the graph.
Be sure to label each axis.

2. A 35 kg sledder slides down from the top of a 5.9 m tall hill. The sledder starts with a speed of 2.63 m/s.

a) What is the sledder's speed at the bottom of the hill?

b) At the bottom of the hill, the sledder collides with a 50 kg person running at 8.5 m/s directly away from the sledder. You can assume both the sledder and the person are moving due east. The sledder and the person collide and the person falls into the sled. What is the velocity of the sledder and the person after the collision?

3. A person throws a 410 gram dodgeball straight up into the air. The dodgeball leaves the thrower's hand 1.5 m above the ground.

a) What is the speed of the dodgeball at its maximum height?

b) What was the dodgeball's initial speed if its maximum height is 21.72 m?

c) Before the thrower's hand starts to move, the speed of the dodgeball is zero. While the thrower's hand is touching the dodgeball, what is the change in the dodgeball's momentum?

d) If the dodgeball was in the thrower's hand for 1.15 seconds, what force did the thrower apply to it? You can assume the "hand force" is like a force that acts during a collision.

Suppose water is leaking from a tank through a circular hole of area ah at its bottom. when water leaks through a hole, friction and contraction of the stream near the hole reduce the volume of water leaving the tank per second to cah 2gh , where c (0 < c < 1) is an empirical constant. a tank in the form of a right-circular cone standing on end, vertex down, is leaking water through a circular hole in its bottom. (assume the removed apex of the cone is of negligible height and volume.) (a) suppose the tank is 20 feet high and has radius 8 feet and the circular hole has radius 2 inches. the differential equation governing the height h in feet of water leaking from a tank after t seconds is dh dt = − 5 6h3/2 . if the height of the water is initially 8 feet, how long will it take the tank to empty? (round your answer to two decimal places.)

An astronaut in space cannot use a scale or balance to weigh objects because there is no gravity. but she does have devices to measure distance and time accurately. she knows her own mass is 77.4 kg , but she is unsure of the mass of a large gas canister in the airless rocket. when this canister is approaching her at 3.50 m/s , she pushes against it, which slows it down to 1.30 m/s (but does not reverse it) and gives her a speed of 2.60 m/s . what is the mass of the canister?

Air conditioners not only cool air, but dry it as well. suppose that a room in a home measures 5.0m×9.0m×2.4m . if the outdoor temperature is 30 ∘c and the vapor pressure of water in the air is 85 % of the vapor pressure of water at this temperature, what mass of water must be removed from the air each time the volume of air in the room is cycled through the air conditioner? the vapor pressure for water at 30 ∘c is 31.8 torr.
