On October 15, 1997, a car called Thrust SSC set a new land speed record. It travelled 763 mph for a mile and became the first car to officially break the sound barrier. The Thrust SSC propels itself forward with two jet engines made by Rolls Royce, the same engines found in the British version of the Phantom II fighter jet. The propulsion system on the Thrust SSC is unique in that it does not rely on friction between the tires and the ground for its forward motion. Instead, the jet engines provide the force. Is it possible to make it even faster?

An astronaut in space cannot use a scale or balance to weigh objects because there is no gravity. but she does have devices to measure distance and time accurately. she knows her own mass is 77.4 kg , but she is unsure of the mass of a large gas canister in the airless rocket. when this canister is approaching her at 3.50 m/s , she pushes against it, which slows it down to 1.30 m/s (but does not reverse it) and gives her a speed of 2.60 m/s . what is the mass of the canister?
