A boat travels to the right in a straight line away from a dock with an average acceleration of 12.0 m/s2. The boat then has it's engine stopped and the boat slows down at the same magnitude as it accelerated until it stops. The boat then turns around and travels back to the dock with the same average acceleration as before. Just as the boat reaches the dock the engine starts on fire. This slows the boat down with the same magnitude as it accelerated until it stops. Explain what the signs of each acceleration and deceleration should be for both traveling away and traveling toward the dock.

The nuclear potential that binds protons and neutrons in the nucleus of an atom is often approximated by a square well. imagine a proton conned in an innite square well of length 105 nm, a typical nuclear diameter. calculate the wavelength and energy associated with the photon that is emitted when the proton undergoes a transition from the rst excited state (n 2) to the ground state (n 1). in what region of the electromagnetic spectrum does this wavelength belong?
