This is the part where you compress the ball against the spring with a ramrod, then release the spring. The ball is shot into the pendulum cup. The ball+pendulum then swings up to a maximum angle, which you measure. In the real lab, you would take 5 measurements of q and average them. The typical error in the average is 0.5 deg, although we will not be doing error propagation in this lab. Here, m is the mass of the ball, M is the mass of the pendulum (without the ball in it!), v0 is the initial velocity (at launch) of the ball, and V is the velocity of the ball+pendulum just after the collision.
