Latitude is defined as the distance of a place on the earth surface from the equator. So, from the poles to the Equator the amount of sunlight changes in (decreases from season to season). Different latitudes receive different amounts of sunlight, so higher latitudes receive less heat than lower latitude areas (nearer the equator). Also, the angle at which the sun's rays strike the earth's surface is dependent on latitude.

Temperature is inversely related to latitude. As latitude increases, the temperature falls, and vice versa.
