Q1. (a) A crane as shown in the Figure Q1 is used to lift the bricks via a cable X which is
made of alloy. Cable X has modulus of elasticity, E = 212 GPa and tensile strength,
Ots = 610 MPa and diameter of 10 mm. Cable X also has the design capacity with
the maximum allowable elongation is 0.02% which is also known as yield strain.
For each of the brick weight of 1.45 kg, calculate maximum number of bricks
allowed to be lifted to avoid exceeding the design capacity. Given the length of the
cable is 10 m. Provide you answer in 4 decimal points.

In a simplified model of the human eye, the aqueous and vitreous humors and the lens all have a refractive index of 1.40, and all the refraction occurs at the cornea, whose vertex is 2.60 cm from the retina. what should be the radius of curvature of the cornea such that the image of an object 40.0 cm from the cornea’s vertex is focused on the retina?

Astone is dropped from the upper observation deck of a tower, 250 m above the ground. (assume g = 9.8 m/s2.) (a) find the distance (in meters) of the stone above ground level at time t. h(t) = (b) how long does it take the stone to reach the ground? (round your answer to two decimal places.) s (c) with what velocity does it strike the ground? (round your answer to one decimal place.) m/s (d) if the stone is thrown downward with a speed of 2 m/s, how long does it take to reach the ground? (round your answer to two decimal places.) s
