after the switches closes, the charge on the capacitor is the same as before, therefore, the voltage drop in the capacitor is zero.

Apply Kirchoff's voltage rule for short term;

q = q_o = 0 (since it is uncharged)

$V_{battery} + IR =0$

Where;

q₀ is the charge on the capacitor before

q is the charge on the capacitor after
