A block of mass m; and a block of mass m2 are hanging from opposite ends of a rope that is wrapped around a solid disk pulley. Block 2 is sitting on the ground and block 1 is height H above the ground. The mass of block 2 is less than the mass of block 1. Assume that the pulley is a uniform disk, has a radius of R and a mass of mp and that the pulley rotates freely without the rope slipping. What is the speed of block 1 just before it hits the floor? I pulley=MR. Solve this question with two methods: Use Newton's laws and kinematics, Clearly show all work. M FBD for block 1 FBD for block 2 FBD for the pulley
a) Write down the Newton's second law (translation) for Mi. Use approximate symbols.
b) Write down the Newton's second law (translation) for M2. Use approximate symbols.
c) Write down the Newton's second law (rotation) for the pulley. Use approximate symbols.
d) What is the magnitude of the acceleration of the block 1? Use approximate symbols.
e) What is the speed of block 1 just before it hits the floor? Use approximate symbols.
