(1.)Tribology is the study of friction, wear, lubrication, and the design of bearings; the science of interacting surfaces in relative motion.
(2.)Tribology is particularly important in today's world because so much energy is lost to friction in mechanical components. To use less energy, we need to minimize the amount that is wasted. Significant energy is lost due to friction in sliding interfaces.
(3.) Wear can be defined as an extremely short sliding motion and is executed within a short time interval.
