Phonons: In physics, a phonon is said to be a collection of excited state of atoms or molecules in a condensed matter  in a periodic, elastic arrangement of atoms or molecules like solids and some liquids. A material in the solid state compose of atoms or molecules structured in a lattice form, though is not static. The said atoms or molecules undergo vibration away from their equilibrium positions. This is said to be the microscopic  view of heat, thus the more the lattice vibrates, the higher the temperature. By  applying  quantum mechanics to a structure of lattice it result in a smallest packet of vibration of lattice termed phonon do not confuse with photon which has to do with quantum of light.
