An astronaut in space cannot use a scale or balance to weigh objects because there is no gravity. But she does have devices to measure distance and time accurately. She knows her own mass is 78.4 kg , but she is unsure of the mass of a large gas canister in the airless rocket. When this canister is approaching her at 3.30 m/s , she pushes against it, which slows it down to 1.20 m/s (but does not reverse it) and gives her a speed of 2.40 m/s .?

The 20@kg wheel has a radius of gyration about its center g of kg = 300 mm. when it is subjected to a couple moment of m = 50 n # m, it rolls without slipping. determine the angular velocity of the wheel after its mass center g has traveled through a distance of sg = 20 m, starting from rest.

Two kilograms of air within a piston–cylinder assembly executes a carnot power cycle with maximum and minimum temperatures of 800 k and 300 k, respectively. the heat transfer to the air during the isothermal expansion is 60 kj. at the end of the isothermal expansion the volume is 0.4 m3. assume the ideal gas model for the air. determine the thermal efficiency, the volume at the beginning of the isothermal expansion, in m3, and the work during the adiabatic expansion, in kj.

Two cannon balls weighing 18 kg and 24 kg are chained together and fired horizontally with a velocity of 165 m/s from the top of a 21-m wall. the chain breaks during the flight of the cannonballs and the 18-kg cannonball strikes the ground at t = 1.5 s, at a distance of 240 m from the foot of the wall, and 7 m to the right of the line of fire. determine the position of the other cannonball at that instant. neglect the resistance of the air.
