Consider the case of an adhesive joint created by bonding two poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) (component A) sheets together with an epoxy adhesive (component B). The surface energies for the PVC solid surface, liquid epoxy, and PVC/epoxy interface are 47 erg/cm2, 41.7 erg/cm2, and 4.0 erg/cm2, respectively. (a) Calculate the work of cohesion (going from two interfaces to no interface) within the epoxy adhesive. This is the work required to separate epoxy bonds from one another. (b)Calculate the work of adhesion between one surface of the PVC sheet and the liquid epoxy. This is the work required to separate the epoxy from the PVC. (c) Calculate the free energy of spreading associated with epoxy 'wetting' the PVC. Will the epoxy spontaneously 'wet the PVC?

Two 1.20-m nonconducting wires meet at a right angle. one segment carries + 2.50 µc of charge distributed uniformly along its length, and the other carries - 2.50 µc distributed uniformly along it, as shown in fig. 21.50. ( a. find the magnitude and direction of the electric field these wires produce at point p, which is 60.0 cm from each wire. ( b. if an electron is released at p, what are the magnitude and direction of the net force that these wires exert on it?
