A31 kg crate full of very cute kittens is placed on an incline that is 17° below the horizontal. the crate is connected to a spring that is anchored to a vertical wall, such that the spring is parallel to the surface of the incline.
a. if the crate was connected to the spring at equilibrium length, and then allowed to stretch the spring until the crate comes to rest, determine the spring constant. assume that the incline is frictionless and that the change in length of the spring is 2.13 m.
b. if there is friction between the incline and the crate, would the spring stretch more, or less than if the incline is frictionless? you must use concepts pertaining to work and energy to receive full credit.

Ablock of mass m = 2.5 kg is attached to a spring with spring constant k = 740 n/m. it is initially at rest on an inclined plane that is at an angle of theta= 26 with respect to the horizontal, and the coefficient of kinetic friction between the block and the plane is uk = 0.17. in the initial position, where the spring is compressed by a distance of d = 0.16 m, the mass is at its lowest position and the spring is compressed the maximum amount. take the initial gravitational energy of the block as zero. the block's initial mechanical energy is 9.472 j.b. if the spring pushes the block up the incline, what distance l in meters will the block travel before coming to rest? the spring remains attached to both the block and the fixed wall throughout its motion.

Asteel tube (k=50 w/mk) of inner and outer diameter di = 20mm and do=26mm, respectively, is used to transfer heat from hot gases flowing over the tube (h-hot = 200w/m2k) to cold water flowing through the tube (h-cold = 8000 w/m2k). what is the cold-side overall heat transfer coefficient uc? to enhance heat transfer 16 straight fins of rectangular profile are installed longitudinally along the outer surface of the tube. the fins are equally spaced around the circumference of the tube, each having a thickness of 2mm and a length of 15mm. what is the corresponding overall heat transfer coefficient uc? *solve for uc in both cases*
