If your children are doing a science fair project to determine if an object that can float or sink in one type of liquid would it be able to do the opposite in another type of would be the best types of objects and liquids to use? is there anything out there that floats in one liquid and sinks in another? how would you even go about starting this project? what should we know? ( i need this project is harder than my own physics )

Does anyone know how to solve this problem? i really need . i made an attempt but i just cant get it. a metal rod is 25.000 cm long at 25.0 degrees celsius. when heated to 102.0 degrees celsius, it is 25.054 cm long. what is the coefficient of linear expansion for this metal.
