Define perceptual set. briefly explain how a perceptual set may form and why people should be skeptical when evaluating the accuracy of their perceptual set.

Perceptual set is defined as how an observer perceive/ understand/ notice any sketch or diagram. Perceptual set is formed due to expectation or mood of viewer.

According to Vernon, 1955 perceptual set works in two ways:

(1) The perceiver has certain expectations and focuses attention on particular aspects of the sensory data: This he calls a Selector'.

(2) The perceiver knows how to classify, understand and name selected data and what inferences to draw from it. This she calls an 'Interpreter'.

It has been found that a number of variables, or factors, influence perceptual set, and set in turn influences perception. The factors include:

an ion is a charged atom or molecule. it is charged because the number of electrons do not equal the number of protons in the atom or molecule. an atom can acquire a positive charge or a negative charge depending on whether the number of electrons in an atom is greater or less then the number of protons in the atom.
