On this velocity-time graph, the object is up , sitting still , slowing down , changing directions

That's not enough information.  In order to recognize what the object is doing, it's not enough just to know that somewhere there's a graph of its speed that somebody drew.  

Just by reading the question, we know that there are at least 4 different things that the graph might show, so to know which one it is, we would need to actually SEE the graph.

Personally, I'd LOVE to see a graph that shows the direction of the object's motion.
