You are incorrect for Part A. Raising 9 dollars EACH (*) day for a week (7 days) translates to, in mathematical terms, 9 * 7. 9 multiplied by 7 equals 63. 
The goal was to get to 439 dollars. If they have 63, how much MORE (+) do they need? To solve this, we do inverse operations of addition which is subtraction. Take 439 and subtract it by 63. 439 - 63 = 376. Check our work: 376 + 63 = 439? Yes.
