There are several ways to solve this problem.

1. Table:  You may have a table that shows the area under the normal curve. Often those tables show the area to the left of a particular value of z. The attached picture shows such a table. It says that the area to the LEFT of z = -2 is 0.0228. Remember that the area under the entire graph is 1, so to find the area to the RIGHT of z = -2, subtract 0.0228 from 1.

1.0000 - 0.0228 = 0.9772.

Some tables show the area to the left of a value of z, but beginning with 0.  In that case, you use z = 2, and the table would show an area of 0.4773. Subtract this from 0.5000 -- the area to the right of 0 -- to get 0.0227.
