Telephone Company Project Imagine that you represent a consumer group in your neighborhood and you are
responsible for advising new families that move into the area as to which telephone
company would cost less for the average number of telephone calls the family
makes per month You have narrowed the search to two companies, ESP Telephone
and T2 Telephone. These are their prices.
T2
ESP $4.00 base fee per month
$0.10 per local call
$7.00 base fee per month
$0.06 per local call
TASKS
o Make two tables of values for each telephone company for the
number of local calls versus the monthly cost. Go from 0 to 100 calls
by intervals of 5.
o Graph both tables of values on one set of axes.
o Write two equations in y = mx + b form for both of the graphs.
Find the point of intersection of the two graphs.
ANALYSIS
1. When you have finished the above tasks, write at least one paragraph
describing how you accomplished the four tasks above. Describe all work
involved and be as detailed as possible. What did you learn from doing this?
Is this valuable information?
2.
Based on everything you have learned, write a letter to the consumer group
with your recommendations about which plan a family should choose. Keep in
mind these thoughts: one family in the neighborhood, the O'Neal family
makes about 80 local calls per month. Which service is better for them and
why? The Jordan family, on the other hand, only makes 50 calls a month.
Which service is better for them and why? Justify your recommendations.
