Adding and subtracting mixed numbers with unlike denominators I know this isn’t a question but this is if you don’t understand and this is my method I did have trouble with this at one point and I wanted to share how I understand it it so I hope this helps ☮️

This is a an example of subtracting and borrowing I will do step by step

The example is 7 1/2 - 2 7/10

Step 1 find your least common denominator / LCD

Step 2 rename your fraction by multiplying your denominator to see how many time it can go to your LCD Ex. LCD = 10 2x5= 10 1x5=5
Remember : whatever you do to your denominator you do to your numerator with multiplying

Step 3 if your left fraction is less than your right fraction you need to borrow EX. 7 1/2 - 2 7/10 1 can go into 7 so we need to borrow we take 1 away from 7 which will be 6 you will technically do 1 whole x 10 = 10 because 1 x 10 = 10 + 5 from your numerator = 15 so you will just add your denominator from your numerator and the denominator will stay and bring down your whole number and it will be 6 15/10 that’s an improper fraction. Leave the right mixed number alone

Step 4 once you borrowed you will subtract if your left fraction is still not greater than your right numerator then borrow again and do the same process with borrowing in step 4 till your left numerator is greater than your right .EX. 6 15/10 - 2 7/10 15 - 7 = 8 And the denominator will stay the same then subtract you whole numbers which = 4 our answer is 4 8/10

Step 5 if your denominator is divisible by your numerator then divide. How do I know what to divide my fraction well there is a way find the factors of your denominator and numerator and see if the both have the least common factor EX. 8 & 10
8: 1,2,4,8 10: 1,2,5,10 8 and 10 can go into 2 Think: “about what numbers can be multiplied together to give your number?” So then we do
8 ÷ 2 = 4 because 4x2=8 And
10 ÷ 2 = 5 because 2x5= 10 then we put bring our whole number down and our simplified answer is 4 4/5
DONE!!!✅

Trust me it will work just believe in your self and you can do it! There’s a image of how to do it and how I did my method if you didn’t understand by text have a great day/night/afternoon!
