A study on crime stated that half (50%) of all arsonists are younger than 18 years of age. A researcher wonders if this proportion has changed in recent years. Checking local crime statistics for 2017-2019, the researcher found that 175 out of 300 arson suspects were under 21. Does the researcherā€s result support her claim the proportion of arsonists younger than 18 years of age has significanly changed? Include in each Hypothesis Test:
a. Write the null-hypothesis and the alternative hypothesis in math language and in English.
b. Identify the claim.
c. Make a sketch appropriate for the problem. In the center of your normal curve, label with the mu
or p as appropriate and the correct value for this test.
d. Use alpha = 0.05 for each test for your significance level. (Significant but not highly significant).
e. Which test in the calculator should you use? Explain why.
f. Run the test. Record the p-value for each problem. Also record the z-test, t-test, or p-test value.
g. Make your Decision. (Reject H0 or Do not Reject H0)
h. Correctly phrase your conclusion/summary. This must reference the claim. Use your notes, the
power point or the text to make sure you phrase this correctly.
