In a study of heart surgery, one issue was the effect of drugs called beta-blockers on the pulse rate of patients during surgery. The first thirty patients in a hospital emergency room were given a beta-blocker. The next thirty patients received a placebo. The pulse rate of each patient at a critical point during the operation was recorded. The treatment group had mean 65.2 and standard deviation of 7.8. For the control group, the mean was 70.3 and standard deviation was 8.3.
Find a 96% confidence interval for the difference between the two groups.
Your interval calculated previously was :
A doctor claims that the beta-blockers will show a significant difference in pulse rate for the patients. Does your interval support this claim/ Explain why or why not.
If a test of significance were to be run to match this interval, what alpha level would we use?
Would the test cause you to reject or fail to reject, based on the results of the interval? (DO NOT RUN THE INTERVAL
