Researchers have collected data of 234 adults who were current smokers at the time of data collection to conduct research on smoking. Gender, Age, number of cigarettes consuming per day, and CO level in their breath were collected in all the study subjects. Except for Gender, all other variables were continuous measures and they were assumed to be normally distributed. a. Below is the output of obtaining Pearson correlation coefficient between Age and CO level using STATA. Report the correlation coefficient and mention if there is a significant linear relationship between the two variables. Interpret the correlation coefficient in the context of the research.
b. If the two variables were not normally distributed in the data, what test would have been used to do the same investigation on linear relationship as in Part (a)?
