Fair crack of the whip mate. Texas is just a little place compared with Australia. Until it was cut in two some years ago, Australia's biggest privately owned rural property, Victoria River Downs in the Northern Territory was actually bigger than the state of Texas.

So who's like who?

Why anyone would use tiddly little Texas as the basis for a comparison with Australia is beyond me. The only similarity is that both places have cattle and some people in both places wear big hats.

Anyone who thinks Texans are people for Australians to be compared with has seen too many American Westerns. You need only look at Australian and Texan attitudes to guns to realize how different the two cultures are.

And the "British" bit is a bit much, too. Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA were all colonized by the Brits... and the first three remain in the British Commonwealth because it suits us to. As do India and Bangladesh and nearly 30 other countries.

But we all have our own cultures and are all different.

There are some similarities between Kiwi and Aussie cultures because the countries were colonised at the same time and had a shared workforce. Much the same as the US and Canada.

I'd don't think New Zealand is similar to any state in the US. I think we're too open minded for that. We dislike racism, guns, skiting, US politics, the US system of healthcare and the way they treat poor people.
