In order to find the area of this irregular shape, we have to divide it into triangles and rectangles, find the areas of each shape, and then add them together.

First, put a point (G) at 4,3 then remove the new triangle DEG. GD = 6 and EG = 1. 6 times 1 = 1, then 6 divided by 2 equals 3... the area of DEG is 3 square units.

Next, put a point (H) at -2,3 then remove the square CDGH. Side CD = 6 and side DG = 6. 6 times 6 = 36... the area of CDGH is 36 square units.

Next, remove triangle AFH. Side HA = 3 and side FH = 3. 3 times 3 = 9 and 9 divided by 2 = 4.5... the area of AFH is 4.5 square units.

Next, put a point (I) at -2,2 the remove the new triangle ABI. Side IA = 4 and side BI = 3. 4 times 3 = 12 and 12 divided by 2 = 6... the area of ABI is 6 square units.
