3 x's in 1/4, 4 x's in 3/8, 3 x's in 1/2 and 2 x's in 5/8. i know the answer is 9. i need to know how did i get 9. you.

The question is how many kittens weigh AT LEAST 3/8 of a pound. When you say at least, it means greater than or equal to. So, 

There are 4 kittens weighing 3/8 
3 kittens weighing 1/2
and 2 kittens weighing 5/8

Therefore, the answer is (4+3+2) = 9 kittens
