What is the effect of an outlier on the mad (mean absolute deviation) of a data set.

choice a) an outlier does not change the mad.
choice b) an outlier always increases the mad.
choice c) an outlier always decreases the mad.
choice d) an outlier can either decrease or increase the mad.

personally, i'm debating between choices b and d. what do you think?
