Find the slope and y-intercept for y=x+4

To find those two values, it's easiest to break down each part of the equation. Sometimes graphing the equation can take too much time.  Luckily there is another way!

The equation is y = x + 4, which means it is in a format known as slope-intercept form.  The standard form of slope-intercept form is "y = ax + b".  "a" and "b" are undefined variables, but they also represent the two values you need to find.  "a" is the slope of the line, and "b" is the y-intercept.

Since there is no "a" value in front of x, the slope is 1.  This is because saying "1x" is the same as just "x".  And the "b" value in the equation is 4, so the y-intercept is 4.

Slope:  1
y-intercept:  4
